Capital Markets Analyst

Finance products for residential solar – including loans, leases, power purchase agreements, and property-assessed clean energy (PACE) financing – are available in 23 states, and financing for home efficiency improvements is available in all 50 states. Spruce’s national reach and full product suite enable the company to capture more share of business from its channel because clients can access multiple finance products for a wide variety of home improvements on a single platform. Spruce is also able to capture a greater share of wallet from consumers by offering them the financing they want for the energy efficiency home improvement they need, and creating a long-term relationship that enables additional sales of complementary improvements down the road.

THE ROLE: Analyst, Capital Markets

Spruce is looking for an Analyst to join our Capital Markets team in New York.  We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about capital markets and the renewable energy space.  You will work closely with our capital markets team in New York, our management, finance, legal and product teams in San Francisco, and other teams in Houston and Anaheim, as well as interacting regularly with our financing partners.  You will help the capital markets team with innovative, efficient financial solutions, contributing to Spruce’s best-in-class nationwide residential energy lending and financing platforms.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work on and help to close a variety of financing vehicles (e.g., warehouse facilities, forward flow arrangements, whole loan sales, securitizations), including assistance with modeling, data analysis, deal marketing, negotiation, documentation and administration.
  • Support ongoing loan sales by preparing materials and analyses, as well as managing the due diligence process with external parties.  Coordinate with external banking, legal and investing relationships.
  • Analyze, refine, and optimize the economics of the residential solar loan, energy efficiency loan and PACE products on the Spruce platform.
  • Work with finance, treasury and executive teams to develop a variety of business analysis and forecasting tools and models to integrate with corporate accounting and planning.
  • Assist in improving financial models in terms of accuracy, flexibility and ease of use
  • Help develop ABS framework and models for PACE securitization.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Take initiative to solve problems with minimal oversight
  • Ability to develop and apply new skills and concepts quickly

Technical Skills:

  • One to two years of work experience in structured finance, securitization, deal structuring or investment banking.  Modeling experience a huge plus
  • Understanding of various debt and equity financing structures, including loan financing (term loans and securitization)
  • Understanding of basic accounting statements such as balance sheet, cash flow, income statement
  • Ability to read and interpret legal documents
  • Expertise with MS Excel including Visual Basic (macros), and highly skilled with other MS Office products including PowerPoint and Word
  • Experience with Intex, SAS or SQL a plus

 

EDUCATION:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, engineering or mathematics preferred.
